"Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. - Matthew 22:36-40

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. - Psalms 133

He shall feed his flock like a shepherd. He shall gather the lambs with his arm and carry them in his bosom and shall gently lead those that are with young. - Isaiah 40:11

Welcome!

For more than a century, St. Anne's Episcopal Church has brought people together to worship God. Steeped in tradition, and nestled in the heart of historic Smithsburg, Maryland, St. Anne's is one of the rare churches that both honors the past and looks to the future.

Our congregation is made up of people from every generation and a wide variety of backgrounds. We open our doors to all who are seeking a relationship with God and one another. It is our strong belief that a church family is built upon a common faith in Jesus Christ - not upon a lack of differences among its people. We strive to follow Jesus' example of appreciating the uniqueness each individual can offer.

We are open, Christ-centered, affirming and child-friendly. Families are welcome to keep their babies and children with them throughout the service, or have them attend Sunday School in the Parish House.

St. Anne's is strengthened through its traditional worship and music, as well its opportunities to contribute through meaningful service with the local Free Clinic, Food Bank, Smithsburg Fire Department, Emergency Medical Service and Habitat for Humanity. We are also proud to host the local Boy and Girl scout troops in our church Parish House.

If you've been searching for a church home - a place to grow in your relationship with God and create meaningful, lifelong friendships - we hope you'll visit us soon. Our doors are always open to you.

Service

10:00 AM Sunday

St. Anne's services use Rite II from The Book of Common Prayer. Rite I is celebrated on the 1st and 5th Sundays of each month. We worship through traditional music from the 1982 Episcopal Hymnal and the LEVAS book (Lift Every Voice and Sing) with organ accompaniment.

Holy Communion is celebrated each Sunday, and all are welcomed to the table. Children's Sunday School dismisses before Holy Communion so that families may take the Sacrament together.

Wheelchair accessible St. Anne's is a wheelchair-accessible facility.

Fellowship

Everyone is invited to "Fellowship and Coffee" in the Parish House each Sunday directly after the service. If you are considering visiting our church, this is a wonderful time to meet our church family and find out why St. Anne's is such a special place.

We have covered-dish lunches whenever we have a 5th Sunday in the month.
